Health ServicesÌý

Located on the ground floor of the Olive Swann Porter building, Health Services is staffed by a women's health nurse practitioner who provides medical treatment for common, non-life-threatening illnesses, treatment of minor injuries, and physical examinations. The nurse practitioner also provides personal health education and coordinates programs on health related topics. A physician is available on campus by a scheduled appointment. There is no charge for Health Services visits for full-time students. All medical information in Health Services is confidential.

All new students must comply college medical requirements including immunizations, a tuberculosis test, and a physical examination. All full-time students,Ìý and all students living on campus are required to have health insurance that meets our college waiver requirements. Health insurance with coverage in Macon is required for all students to cover off-campus medical care. Students with chronic illnesses may be referred to local physicians for management. Off-campus referrals may be needed for diagnostic tests or treatment beyond the scope of Health Services.

There are several medical facilities close to campus that provide treatment when Health Services is closed. Atrium Navicent Health Urgent Care, located 925 Zebulon Road,is available for urgent medical care.ÌýPiedmont Hospital Emergency Room, located at 400 Charter BoulevardÌýis available for emergency treatment.Ìý

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) requires the Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) to maintain the privacy of your health information, inform you of its legal duties and privacy practices with respect to your health information through this Notice of Privacy Practices, notify you if there is a breach involving your protected health information, agree to restrict disclosure of your health information to your health plan if you pay out-of- pocket in full for health care services, and abide by the terms of this Notice currently in effect. 91¶¶Òõ maintains HIPAA and Confidentiality of Health Records and Privacy Practices. Jill Amos, Assistant Dean of Student Support, Health, and Wellness, promotes and advocates for a welcoming environment while encouraging access and appropriate accommodations for students. She serves as the ADA compliance coordinator and oversees special funding sources for students with extenuating circumstances. She assists students with problem solving, helping to identify appropriate resources on and off campus as students learn to advocate for themselves. Jill assists community members with reports of Title IX and Title VI violations, including harassment, sexual misconduct, and discrimination, and works with the Human Resources Director for Title VII investigations. Jill handles these sensitive matters with empathy and attention to detail. Myrana Craig, LPC,Ìýis a licensed counselor who uses Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and various research based therapeutic approaches to empower students with the resources to make positive changes in their lives. The counselor and student work together to discuss personal issues and aid the student in defining their personal goals. Through counseling a student will be able to overcome obstacles which may be preventing them from reaching their full potential.ÌýShould the student miss more than three counseling appointments, their account will be charged a $20 late fee for each subsequent session.ÌýFor more information see the Student Counseling Services website or other website resources listed below. Her office provides support, advocacy, trainings, and other learning opportunities for campus members to be informed, engaged, and intentional about inclusive behaviors and practices. Rev. Rachel Paul HartmanÌýis our campus Chaplain who supports students with pastoral and spiritual needs, facilitates faith development and coordinates community engagement through service. Supported by the Office for Equity and Inclusion, Faith and Service programming from the Chaplain provides a space for friendships, genuine conversations, personal reflection, and support for one's faith and values.ÌýThe College Chaplain is available to help students process life’s big questions, whether a student is trying to make sense of self-identity and belonging, wrestling with questions of faith or doubt, or just needing someone to listen. Chaplain Rachel can connect students, faculty, and staff to local religious organizations and nonprofit organization volunteer opportunities by request.
